The North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) are examinations taken by individuals looking to get licensed as Pharmacist to practice Pharmacy in the United States. MPJE® and NAPLEX® are registered trademarks of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®)

MPJE:

The MPJE® test combines federal and state specific regulatory questions to test the Pharmacy jurisprudence knowledge of future Pharmacists. MPJE test serves as the pharmacy law examination in participating jurisdictions and tests a candidate's knowledge along with proficiency in Pharmacy law at both federal and state level.

Majority of the MPJE questions are framed keeping patient safety in mind and correct answer will steer you towards highest degree of patient safety.

The MPJE exam, as the name suggests the exam requires you to have a solid grip on a Pharmacist's legal responsibilities, requirements and tests your knowledge to take right decision in the patient's interest.

The MPJE is a two-and-half-hour exam and a computer-adaptive format comprising of 120 multiple-choice questions. Each state Board of Pharmacy authors and approves questions applicable in that state or jurisdiction. Out of the total 120 questions on the examination, only 100 questions count towards your final score. The remaining 20 items are test questions are probationary for possible use on future MPJE tests. Test taker will not be able to recognize these trail questions.

The three main subject areas of test include:

  • Pharmacy practice (approximately 83%)
  • Licensure, registration, certification, and operational requirements (approximately 15%)
  • General Requirements (approximately 2%)

NAPLEX:

The NAPLEX is used by State Boards of Pharmacy as part of their evaluation of clinical knowledge of individuals to practice pharmacy. It is a computer-adaptive test designed by NABP and offered through Pearson VUE test center.

The NAPLEX exam consists of 250 multiple choice questions, only 200 of which are counted towards the final test score. 50 of the questions are trail questions that are only included to help test writers design future exams. The NAPLEX test is limited to six hours.
